The selection process to get in to the School of Sport is intense and there is great competition for places so this is a fantastic achievement. | Close X A team of swimmers from Falkirk Otter ASC competed at the Scottish National Open Championships from 26th to 29th June at Tolcross, Glasgow. The club had 11 swimmers who qualified to compete at this event which was a magnificent achievement. All swimmers competed well with David Smith qualifying for A Finals in 50 Back, 100 Back and 200 Back, Ross Muir qualifying for an A Final in 400IM and a B Final in 200 Back and Kieran McGuckin qualifying for a B Final in 200 IM. Other swimmers competing were Fraser Neilson, Scott Mackay, Gregor Birrell, Scott Campbell, Megan Risk, Katie Sime, Nicola Cuthbertson and Charlotte McKenzie. |

| Close X Three swimmers from Falkirk Otter ASC competed at the ASA British Youth Championships in Sheffield at the end of July. There were some fantastic performances from them with all three setting new personal bests. Ross Muir finished 6th in the final of the Mens 15/16yrs 400 IM and 10th in the final of the 200 IM. David Smith qualified for the semi-finals of the Mens 17/18yrs 100m Backstroke. Kieran McGuckin finished 11th in the Mens 17/18yrs 100m Breaststroke, narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Ross Muir also achieved the qualifying times for the Scottish Youth Squad and has been selected to represent Scotland at the UK Schools Games in Bristol and Bath at the end of August. Well Done lads!! |

| Close X Charlotte McKenzie had a stunning weekend at the West District Sprints at Ayr on 6th and 7th September. Charlotte competed in 5 events winning the following medals: Silver 100 IM and 50 Breast, Bronze 50 Free, 50 Back and 50 Fly This was a fantastic achievement as Charlotte was swimming in the Girls 10-12 years age group and is still only 11 years old! To top this fantastic weekend Charlotte broke the West District Record for 50m Breaststroke for 11 year old girls, a record which had stood since 1995. |

| Close X Falkirk Otter Alana Boggan finished the Triathlon /Aquathlon season on the 4th Oct with a win in the Scottish Aquathlon Championships. This was also the final race of the MAZDA National Aquathlon League, which she claimed victory in with maximum points. All in all a very good season, winning all 4 Scottish titles for the 9/10 Girls. They all performed superbly but special mention to Callum Lawrie who was Best Boy in the Boys 10 and under age group, Charlotte McKenzie who was joint Best Girl in the 11-12 years category and Ross Muir who was joint Best Boy in the 17years and over category. Callum Lawrie was also awarded Best Boy overall for his four Gold medals on the day. | Close X Some of our swimmers have been on record breaking form over the last few weeks with 3 Scottish Age Group records and 6 West District Records broken. Well done to Ross Muir, Charlotte McKenzie and Kieran McGukin, read all about it below... Ross Muir did the double with his 2 Scottish Records and the treble with West District Records. Ross broke the Scottish Records for 200m individual medley and 400 individual medley in the 17year age group at the R.E.N. Open Meet on 15th/16th November. He also broke the West District in the same age group. Not content with this, Ross also managed to beat the Open Record for the 400individual medley. Charlotte McKenzie hot after winning the British Age Group Gold medal in July was on winning form at the Central Schools Championships on 8th November and broke the Scottish Record for the 100m backstroke in the 11years age group. Charlotte also broke the West District Record in this event. She was still on record breaking form at REN 96 Open Meet where she broke the West District Record for 100m breaststroke and also broke REN 96 Meet records for 100m back, free, fly and 200m individual medley. Both Charlotte and Ross shared best swimmer in their respective age groups at Central Championships on 9th November. One of the club’s younger swimmers, Calum Lawrie had his taste of success at the same meet. Not only did he win best boy in the 10years and under age group but also was the best overall competitor in the meet by achieving gold medals in all of the events he swam. Kieran McGuckin made up the trio of Record Breakers by breaking the West District Records for the 200m freestyle and the 100m backstroke. Charlotte, Kieran and Ross have all achieved British Youth and Age Group qualifying times with their recent new personal best times. With 9 months still to go until the event Falkirk are set to have their best year ever. Falkirk sent a large number of swimmers to these meets, many winning medals. Their performance took them to 3rd placed club at the end of the weekend beaten only by clubs with very large number of swimmers.Well done to all who competed and made this possible. |

They won an amazing number of medals and now have West District Champions in Ian Elrick, Boys 12yrs 200m Breaststroke and Charlotte McKenzie, Girls 12 yrs 200m Breaststroke. | Close X I am delighted to announce that Steven Tigg has accepted our post of Head Coach with effect from Monday 23rd February 2009. Steven is currently Performance Development Coach with South Ayrshire Swim Team. With Steve joining us, we can be confident that we will be able to build on the very good work and sound platform developed by Rob. We seek to expand and develop the clubs even further. Until Steve joins us, coaching will be led by Alan Reed with help from Alistair Calder, we are most grateful to both as we prepare for the Scottish Nationals. In the mean time roll on the Scottish Nationals in January where we are entering a squad of 20 swimmers under the FIRST squad Banner. A really great achievement by Rob and all the swimmers. If you see the programme the Squad of swimmers stand out more prominently as F.I.R.S.T. amongst the other swimmer's clubs. This is testament to the strength and commitment to the parent core clubs of Boness ASC and Falkirk Otter ASC. | Close X An unprecedented number our swimmers competed at the Scottish Short Course Swimming Championships at Tolcross, Glasgow from 16th-18th January. No less than 13 swimmers competed under the FIRST(Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team) banner. There were some outstanding performances from the swimmers. Ross Muir had a sensational weekend breaking his own Scottish Age Group Record for the 200 IM while finishing in 4th place in the Open competition. He also finished in 4th place in the 400 IM which was a fantastic achievement given that he is only 17! Ross also finished 10th in 200Fly A Final, 1st in the 200 Breast B Final and 2nd in the 200 Back B Final. Charlotte McKenzie swam superbly to finish 5th in the B Final of the 50 Backstroke and 6th in the B Final of the 50 Backstroke. She also finished 9th in the Girls 15 & under 100 IM . Charlotte achieved all of this despite being only 12 years of age! Kieran McGuckin had a good weekend finishing 6th in the 50 Back A Final , 8th in the 200 Back A Final and 8th in the 200 IM A Final. Kieran also finished 2nd in the B Final of 100 Back and 3rd in the 200 Breast B Final. David Smith swam well to finish 7th in the 50 Back A Final and 10th in the 200 Back A Final. Ryan Davidson also swam well and finished 5th in the B final of the 50 Breaststroke and 5th in the Boys 15yrs & under 100 IM. Other swimmers who qualified to compete were Fraser Neilson, Scott MacKay, Gregor Birrell, Scott Campbell, Ian Elrick, Megan Risk, Kirsty Park and Nicola Cuthbertson, all swimming well and collecting a large number of PB's. |

| Close X Falkirk Otter swimmers were on form at the recent Scottish Schools Swimming Championships at Tolcross Glasgow on Saturday 31st January. Charlotte MacKenzie, representing Larbert High was in top form taking Gold in the Girls 13/14yrs 100m Backstroke and came 5th in the 200m Individual Medley. Ross Muir representing Falkirk High fought hard and took Silver in the Boys 17/19yrs 200m Individual Medley and continued his success taking Silver in the Boys Open 400m Individual Medley . Lauren Yorston was a member of the Carron Primary School A Relay Team that took Silver in an exciting Girls 12yrs/Under 4 x 50m Freestlye Relay. Falkirk Otters Results: 12yrs / Under Carron Primary A Relay Team - 4 x 50m Freestlye Relay Silver (Lauren Yorston).
